Bob Ferris, executive director of RE Sources, will speak Oct. 14

Bob Ferris will present “The Role of RE Sources in Local Community Sustainability Issues” at Western Washington University’s Huxley College of the Environment Speaker Series at noon on Friday, Oct. 14, in Academic Instructional Center West Room 304.

Ferris will discuss several pressing and interrelated sustainability issues facing our communities today, and will profile RE Sources’ programs and their role in local communities. He also will present opportunities for students to get involved directly with these pressing local sustainability issues.

Ferris is the executive director of RE Sources for Sustainable Communities. He is a 20-year veteran in the environmental and sustainability communities, contributing seminal work in areas ranging from wolf restoration and agricultural policy to renewable energy and economic revitalization. He has held senior CEO positions at Defenders of Wildlife, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and the Center for a New American Dream. He is an accomplished writer with numerous scientific and policy documents published, as well as dozens of opinion pieces in national and regional publications. Ferris holds degrees in Environmental Studies and Biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and Zoology from San Jose State University.

The speaker series is held by Huxley College of the Environment to bring together interested members of the WWU and Bellingham communities. Speakers address topics of contemporary environmental concern in the region and the world. The presentation is free and open to the public.
