WWU Alumna, Now a Principal, Reflects on Time as Student
Q: Has there been a professor who stood out to you? If yes, how has that professor shaped your experience at Western?
A: While all of the professors provided excellent experiences, several stood out to me. Both Don Larsen and Warren Aller not only ran highly effective classes, but provided a wealth and depth of experience that cannot be replicated. In addition, they both genuinely cared about me as a student. In addition, Whitney Meissner led an interactive and active classroom. She also was a professor who established deep relationships with her students and for me in particular, imparted her love for the job.
Q: What type of obstacles did you encounter as a student? Do you have any advice for prospective students?
A: It is the rare individual who does not have the challenge of managing family, work and school responsibilities. Find yourself a system and stick to it!
Q: What have been some of your most rewarding moments while in the program?
A: The most rewarding moments in the program for me came when I received honest and timely feedback on my learning. It was a good reminder to me to provide the same to my staff. In addition, those moments when we as a cohort worked in pairs or groups and completed quality projects leaning on each other.
Q: Do you have any additional comments?
A: If you are looking for a high quality, engaging and interactive program from which to receive your administration credentials then I highly recommend WWU.
