Richard Van Den Hul, Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs, has promoted HR Director Chyerl Wolfe-Lee to Assistant Vice President for Human Resources in recognition of the additional responsibilities Chyerl has assumed in serving the University and Business and Financial Affairs. In making this announcement, Van Den Hul said, “Great things don’t just happen. They occur through hard work, initiative and great leadership. … Western is an even better place to work due, in part, to the great work being done by Chyerl and her staff.

Wolfe-Lee has worked in HR at Western for over 25 years. She assumed the role of Interim HR Director from 2006-2008, and has served as Director since 2008.

Human Resources offers Supervisor Training and Resources (STAR) classes. Current offerings include:

  • Communication and Healthy Conflict Resolution
  • Seamless Hires
  • Labor Relations 101

It’s easy to register online. Just visit HR’s Learning and Development site at http://west.wwu.edu/training/.

These classes are offered in an effort to support the University’s ongoing goal of developing competent supervisors. The University implemented POL-U5420.01 Training Supervisors on Human Resource Compliance Issues Employees earlier this year to make these trainings mandatory for all supervisors. The policy applies to all employees who hold a position designated as part of the “Supervisory Group”, which includes executive officers, faculty (including chairs), professional and classified staff who supervise one or more permanent faculty, professional or classified staff employees.
