AS to present a look at sexuality in the film 'Superbad' Oct. 20

The Associated Students Sexual Awareness Center and Associated Students Productions Films are co-sponsoring a discussion about the teen sex comedy genre in film.

“Superbad” will be shown at 6 p.m. on Oct. 20 in the Academic Instructional Center West Room 204. After the film the Sexual Awareness Center coordinators will lead a discussion about the genre.

“Issues addressed will include, but are not limited to, portrayals of sex, relationships and sexuality, sexual imagery, portrayals of young adults and gender roles,” said Shawna Leader, Sexual Awareness Center coordinator.

This film is part of a series of events the Sexual Awareness Center has planned for the year that will discuss media and portrayals of sex and sexuality. Other media that will be discussed later in the year include music videos and magazines.

The Sexual Awareness Center wishes to provide a safe, inclusive space to discuss these issues. Attendees are welcome to share their opinions or just listen to what others have to say. This event will allow attendees an opportunity to critique mainstream media and use those skills to think critically about other films they see.

“We hope that attendees will have fun watching and talking about the film,” Leader said.
