AS to hold kickoff event for Social Issues Resource Center Oct. 28

The Associated Students Social Issues Resource Center's annual kickoff event is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 28 in Viking Union Room 565. The SIRC is part of the AS' Resource and Outreach Programs.

The kickoff will serve to promote and introduce the Social Issues Resource Center to the entire Western community. Students will participate in interactive activities and learn about the resources provided by the SIRC and the ROP as a whole. Representatives from programs and organizations from the Bellingham community will hand out information on ways students can get involved. Free food will be provided.

The SIRC is responsible for producing events that further the political, economic and cultural awareness of members of the campus and Bellingham community. To ensure diversity of perspectives, the SIRC particularly focuses on issues not commonly addressed in mainstream discourse. The purpose of the SIRC is to provide the campus community an opportunity to exchange ideas and become aware of social issues. It serves as a central coordinating office for resources and information and is a networking center for related Associated Students clubs and community organizations.
