Artist Gala Bent to speak at WWU Nov. 8

Seattle based artist Gala Bent will speak about her artwork from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Fine Arts Building, Room 238, at Western Washington University.

The free, public talk is presented by Western’s Department of Art.

Bent is currently showing work at ELLES: SAM Gallery and Homage to Elles at G. Gibson Gallery, both in Seattle.

In 1997, Bent received her bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts from the Ball State University of Muncie, Ind., followed by her master’s degree of Fine Arts in 1999 from State University of New York in Buffalo. Bent is assistant professor of Art at Seattle Pacific University. Her recent awards include the Seattle City Artist Grant, Artist Trust GAP Grant, and as a finalist for The Neddy at Cornish.

Bent has shown her work in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Recent exhibition include locations as diverse as: Washington, Oregon, North Carolina, Kentucky, Miami, Fla., Indiana, France, and Athens, Greece.

She was born in Michigan, raised in Indiana, schooled in New York and now makes her home in Washington. Gala lives with her husband (fellow-artist Zack Bent) and her three sons in Ballard, and is represented by G. Gibson Gallery.
