Arboretum board needs new member

The Sehome Hill Arboretum Board of Governors will soon have a need for a new member to represent Western Washington University in the planning of maintenance and operations programs and volunteer projects associated with the arboretum.

The 180-acre park of second-growth forest is located next to Western's campus.

  • Governance of the arboretum is based on an interlocal cooperation agreement between the university and the City of Bellingham. The agreement states that two of its eight board members are selected by Western's president. On behalf of President Bruce Shepard, retiring board member David Engebretson is soliciting names of interested individuals and their brief answers to the following two questions:
  • Describe your background related to proper governance of the arboretum.
  • State why serving on this board is important to you.

Please email your response to david.engebretson@wwu.edu before Dec. 10.

The board meets at 4 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month, excluding June, July, August and December, and requires an additional few hours of activities outside of meeting times. More information is available online.

For more information, call Dave Engebretson at 360-650-3595.
