Women's Outdoor Track and Field 2015-16

Placed 20th at the NCAA II National Championship with 20 points (all from women’s javelin), marking the program's sixth top 20 performance since joining the NCAA ranks in 1999 (third consecutive)…were 4th at the GNAC Championships with 101 points…one school record (javelin) fell during the season and there were 22 new entries into the all-time WWU top 10…three athletes earned USTFCCCA All-America status, including first-teamers Bethany Drake (2nd place) and Katie Reichert (3rd place), and second-team selection Anosi Laupola (12th)…seven Vikings earned USTFCCCA All-West Region honors by recording a top five mark in the region: Drake (javelin), Mariah Horton (javelin), Jasmine McMullin (triple jump), Megan Mortensen (discus), Miranda Osadchey (high jump), Anna Paradee (pole vault), Reichert (javelin)…Drake finished 2nd at the NCAA II Championships with a school and GNAC record throw of 54.18m/177-9…she was named the GNAC Female Track & Field Athlete of the Year, becoming the second WWU female athlete to earn that distinction (Sarah Porter in 2011)…Drake was also a three-time GNAC Athlete of the Week…Reichert finished 3rd at the NCAA Championships registering the second-best mark in WWU and GNAC history at 54.03m/177-3…also won the title at the GNAC Championships…Drake and Reichert were named WWU’s co-Female Athletes of the Year (with soccer’s Delanee Nilles) and both qualified for the US Olympic Trials recording marks over the 54.00m standard…sent seven athletes to the NCAA II Championships in Bradenton, Florida: Drake (javelin), Reichert (javelin), Laupola (javelin), Horton (javelin), Brittany Grant (5,000m & 3,000m steeplechase), Osadchey (high jump)…Mortensen repeated as the GNAC discus champion and recorded the second-best mark in school history (47.36m/155-4)…19 student athletes had a cumulative GPA above 3.2 to earn GNAC Academic All-Star honors…Drake and Taylor Guenther were named CoSIDA District 8 Track & Field / Cross Country Academic All-District…Guenther was also the co-recipient of WWU’s Female Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.
