Western launched several new degree programs in 2013-14, including:

  • Bachelors of Science degrees in Manufacturing Engineering, Plastics and Composites Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The Electrical Engineering degree will offer two concentrations: Electronics and Energy. Western had previously offered bachelor's degrees in a well-regarded engineering technology program, but transitioned to engineering to help meet the state's need for more engineers.
  • A Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Culture, building upon Western's previous minor in Chinese. The degree is designed to help students develop credentials to distinguish themselves as world citizens as well as build a solid foundation for graduate study.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Psychology to replace the previous Bachelor of Arts. The change reflects the Psychology Department's extensive research training and emphasis on real world research experience.
  • A Master of Arts in Environmental Studies, designed to allow students to develop and integrate social and natural science coursework in a regional context.

Western also began offering a certificate in Geographic Information Science, through the Environmental Studies Department, and two minors: Design and Leadership Studies.
