CFPA's Sanford-Hill Piano Series brings top artists to Western
The Sanford-Hill Piano Series brings professional pianists from around the world to Western Washington University to perform for students and the greater community.
Since its inception in 2002, the series has hosted legendary pianists and rising stars such as Ian Parker, Orion Weiss, Charlie Albright, Di Wu, the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo, Jonathan Biss and Beatrice Rana. The series, funded with the help of the philanthropy of Sibyl Sanford and Ford Hill, includes concerts and master classes. All revenue generated from the series goes to scholarships for WWU piano students.
The 2015-16 series included:
- Greg Anderson & Elizabeth Joy Roe, known for adrenalized performances, original compositions and notorious music videos. The Anderson & Roe Piano Duo aims to make classical music a relevant and powerful force around the world.
- Petronel Malan, a creative force in classical music who has won several international piano competitions and received nominations for several Grammy awards.
- Jeremy Denk, recipient of a 2013 MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship who has performed solo with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra and others.
