Created in 2002, the Sanford-Hill Piano Series provides access to professional pianists from around the world for the students of Western Washington University and the greater community.

Pianists perform in concerts while holding master classes for students. Since its inception, the series has hosted legendary pianists and rising stars including Ian Parker, Orion Weiss, Charlie Albright, Di Wu, The Anderson & Roe Piano Duo, Jonathan Biss, and Beatrice Rana among many other luminescent players.

Visiting artists in 2014-15 included:

  • Swiss-born American pianist Gilles Vonsattel, called “a pianist well worth watching” by the New York Times.
  • Van Cliburn Gold winner Vadym Kholodenko.
  • Twenty-two year-old Beatrice Rana, who won Silver and the Audience Award at the prestigious VanCliburn competition.
