Art Department's 'Studies in Intermedia' speaker series brings international artists to Western

Western's Department of Art brought to campus several artists in the areas of fiber arts, painting, installation art, ceramics, and art history for its speaker series, "Studies in Intermedia." 

The artists who came to campus included: 

  • Douglas Kahn, a professor and Australian research fellow at the National Institute for Experimental Arts, University of New South Wales, who spoke about “Conceptualism and Energy.”
  • Mandy Greer, who has been recognized with several awards including the Seattle Magazine Spotlight Artist Award and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award and presented a workshop in crochet.
  • Yuken Teruya, whose work has been shown in solo exhibitions around the world, including shows at the Josee Bienvenu Gallery, New York; Murata & Friends Gallery, Berlin; Basel, Switzerland; and The Ueno Royal Art Museum, Tokyo. Teruya presented “Art Watering the Seeds of Social Change.”
  • Amy Chaloupka who earned a bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts from Western and discussed ideas surrounding professional practice and what students can expect to face in a post-graduate environment.
