Alumna to share story of living, working in Germany May 3

Jennifer Mankin, a 2010 Western Washington University graduate with a degree in linguistics, will speak from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 3, about her year working as an English teaching assistant in Germany, from adapting to the culture of East Germany to uncovering new passions.

Besides sharing her personal experiences as a teacher, traveler and language learner in Europe, she will also attempt to address some of the questions of expectation, cultural identity and communication that dominate living and teaching abroad.

The presentation will take place in the Wilson Library Room 164.

Mankin spent a year in Germany as a Fulbright Scholar and is currently an instructor with WWU’s Asia University America Program. This fall she will begin a master’s degree in psychology of language at the University of Edinburgh.
